Birla Mandir Kolkata – Traditionally Designed

The hotel room was really comfortable and cozy due to which I overslept. After a mouth watering Bengali breakfast I continued my journey to my next destination, Birla Mandir Kolkata.  Birla Mandir is a chain of Hindu temples located in many cities of India built by one of the business powerhouses of India, The Birla Family. My taxi driver drove me to the Ashutosh Chowdhury Avenue, Ballygunge in less than 45 minutes from the hotel.

I reached the temple by 10 in the morning and was disappointed to know that the temple will be closed in an hour. The timings of the temple are between 5.30 am to 11 am and opened again from 4.30 pm to 9 pm. The temple is an excellent structure built over a period of 26 years which is neatly maintained. I took some photographs of the temple exteriors and showed to my taxi driver who I thought felt really proud of being a citizen of Kolkata.

The temple building is huge built with white marble stones like any other Birla temple. As I entered the temple I saw stone engraving structures which were really class apart craftsmanship. Radha and Krishna are the main deities of the temple and Janmashtami which is the birth date of Lord Krishna is celebrated with great pomp. I heard that during the festival time the temple and its surroundings are well decorated. Thousands of devotees flock to pay their respect to the deities during that time.

The Birla Mandir offered extreme peace of mind whichever corner I sat. I saw many devotees reciting religious songs and chanting mantras. I made up my mind to visit this temple with my family next time, especially my mother who loves to visit temples and shrines. The Birla Mandir Kolkata was much different from the other temples I visited, one it was less crowded, second it has elegant floorings and third it has clean water supply. The whole experience was simply great and I took plenty of positive energy as I stepped out of the temple to my next destination. I hired a taxi and started reviewing the photographs I took.
