Le Meridien Kochi Kerala : I went for an official trip to Kerala. I was stunned to see the architectural beauty like Le Meridien at Kochi. They offered an excellent stay and I particularly liked the variety of North Indian dishes they offered. A vacation to Kerala cannot be complete without an Ayurveda therapy. I experienced ultimate relaxation at the spa center here.
The trip to the Southern backwaters of Kerala from Kollam to Alappuzha was a very scintillating and divine experience. It was one of those journeys which completely relaxed my mind and made me fall in love with this beautiful state of Kerala. It truly lives up to its reputation of God’s own country. While reaching Alappuzha, I decided to visit the famous Alleppey beach of the city.
The beach is considered as a very famous tourist attraction in the city and state and attracts thousands of tourists from all over India. It is an ideal place to spend a weekend and relax on the sandy beaches. The massive Arabian Sea in the west and the dense palm trees on the opposite of the sea makes the place look beautiful.
The beach and surrounding areas are comprised of many lagoons, fresh water rivers and the vast lakes that enhance the natural beauty of the place. One of the main attractions at the beach is the 140 year old pier which also extends into the sea. The place is also called as India’s Venice by the western tourists. It is an awesome place to reconnect with your inner self and enjoy the environment to its fullest. There are plenty of street food shops nearby the beach to enjoy the local food.
The calmness and solitude one feels while relaxing at the beach is beyond words. I felt very free away from the mechanical life for a while and enjoying the cool winds and staring at the sea waters. There is also a children’s park nearby where one can enjoy boating facilities too. An old light house situated near the beach adds dimensions to its beauty.
There are many facilities for the tourists to indulge in water sports like swimming, beach volleyball, surfing and sailing. There are many boat races which forms the major part of Kerala tourism. Once I was done with the visit to the Alappuzha beach, I headed back for my houseboat for the night stay and next morning it was time to experience the Aqua tourism of the city.
The trip to the Padmanabhswamy temple was a very divine experience. It was lovely to see such a magnificent temple dedicated to the Lord of Creations. After the trip I headed for my next destination which is one of the most famous things to do in Kerala, staying at one of the Southern Backwaters houseboats.
The backwaters of Kerala consist of 900 km of interconnected waterways, rivers and lakes and make a unique ecosystem where all the lagoons and deltas of all the rivers join the Arabian Sea. I enjoyed these backwaters with a stay at one of the lovely houseboat near Kollam. These backwaters around the Kollam are extend from Lake Ashtamudi and are very serene.
This amazing town of Kollam is renowned worldwide for the backwaters of Kerala. I undertook a backwater tour which stretched from Kollam to Alappuzha. It is also the longest backwater tour in the entire state. The facilities provided in the houseboats are world beating. There were many historic churches and temples along the way. The natural beauty that one witnesses in the form of sunset, the splashing of the water and complete serenity all around soothes the soul.
It is also a perfect place to click pictures of the natural beauty along the way. The paddy fields and the mangrove forests with coconut woods and white lilies is a sight for the eyes and sure to make everyone awestruck. These backwater tours in one of the premier houseboats was one of the best trip I took in many years and surely the one I am going to cherish for a long time.
This trip should be undertaken by everyone who comes to visit Kerala. The natural beauty and the calmness one feels in the houseboats is going to leave everyone spellbound. It is also a good opportunity for everyone to click some amazing pictures along the way.
Once I was done with the houseboat tour on the backwaters, I decided to visit the next place in my itinerary which was the Alappuzha beach. The beach is considered by many as one of the most beautiful beaches in the state.
Kumarakom Kottayam Kerala : Even a spec at the Gods Own Country is beautiful in appearance. I wanted to explore the eventual exquisiteness of this place and after a research came to Kumarakom Kottayam. This little village on the Vembanad Lake side offered views of plenty of flora and bird varieties. It was the most colorful vacation ever in my life.
The air travel was a fantastic one. It was not a very tiring journey and in 7 hours I reached Trivandrum, the capital city of Kerala. After checking in at my hotel, I got a quick shower and was ready to begin my excursion in this wonderful state. I had shortlisted many places and beautiful tourist spots for my short travel.
The first place which I visited during my travel to Kerala was the majestic Padmanabhswamy temple. This is one of a kind temple in the entire world. The main attraction of which is the 100 feet tall gopuram or the tower. The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Vishnu and devotees from all over the world come to this temple to get blessed by the Lord.
The best part about the temple was the idol of lord Vishnu which can be seen through the three doorways of the shrine. The first and second door shows the torso, head and hands of the Lord while the third door gives a glimpse of the feet of Vishnu. It is a majestic 18 feet tall idol which is reclined on Anantha, the great snake.
This is definitely one of the most glorious Hindu temples I have seen in my life. Being from the state of Odisha, I have seen many temples dedicated to Gods and Goddesses, but a temple of such majesty and beauty was a treat for the eyes. The Royal family of Travancore, which oversees the maintenance of the temple, has done a very good job in crowd management and preserving the beauty of this amazing temple. There is also a festival named Arattu, which happens in the temple and is said to be the biggest attraction of the city.
The food was also very delicious and gave the taste of Southern delicacies. It is very easy to reach the temple. It is well connected with all the major parts of the city and can be reached by railways, roadways buses or private taxis.
After this visit, I headed for the next place. It was the southern backwaters houseboats of Kollam.
Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary Thekkady : Some things always bring utter happiness. Seeing an elephant is one of them… Well, not just one, but I happened to see herds of elephants at the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary in Thekkady. I was thrilled to see them drinking water on the riverside during the boat ride in the river Periyar.
Hello friends, after a long gap, I am writing this blog post to share one of my travel sojourns. I got a break from my work for a few days, so I decided to make the most of it by planning a short trip somewhere. There were many places that were in my mind. This time I planned to travel somewhere in the South. Kerala, the God’s own country, was the first place that came to my mind. I have always seen some amazing pictures and videos of the place on television but never had the opportunity to visit the place, so I decided to make the most of it right now by exploring it.
I planned all my travel and booked the flight tickets. There are many good websites and travel apps on my mobile, which I used this time to avail Kerala flight hotel offers. I booked air tickets from Bhubaneswar to Trivandrum. There were no direct flights as such between the two cities so I had to travel on two routes. My first flight was from the Biju Patnaik Airport, Bhubaneswar to the Thiruvananthpuram Airport.
The flight was scheduled to depart at 9 in the morning. I left for the airport at 6:30 AM because it was about half an hour drive from home. The check in and baggage formalities were easily completed and soon I was ready to board the Air India Airlines flight. No doubt, Air India is a popular name in the aviation sector in the country. The staff was friendly and the entertainment system in flight was also good.
The flight reached Mumbai in 2:30 hours. My next flight was from Mumbai to Trivandrum and there was 2 hour break in between which I utilized to have some coffee and light snacks at the Mumbai airport.
The Mumbai to Trivandrum flight was a 2-hour short flight in which I shortlisted a few places and things to do at the airport. The excitement started to build up in me. The flight landed at Trivandrum at 3 PM and I headed straight to my hotel, Palm leaves Beach Resort, Trivandrum, which I had booked in advance.
